The time has come for all entrepreneurs and small business owners to acknowledge that social media is here and that it is an excellent source at reaching your clients and customers. When it comes to Facebook there are a couple decisions to make concerning what type of page you will need to set up. There are personal profiles and business fan pages. The biggest decision is if you want a personal profile were mom, dad and the family will be your friends and you will share business information with them or if you want to set up a business fan page. This is where you will invite other business owners to your page and share your business information with them.
There are a couple of differences between a regular Facebook profile and a fan page. The first one is with a personal page when you want to become a friend with someone you click the friend button and wait for that person to confirm or to delete the request. With a business fan page you simply click on the like button and you have access to the page immediately.
Facebook deeply frowns on using a personal profile page for business. That is one of the most important reasons for using a business fan page if you want to build up following for your business. If Facebook frowns on it and finds you are not following their guidelines they can shut your page down immediately without any warning. Instead, use your about section on your personal profile to send people to your business page. You can share a link at your work history that leads them directly to a business fan page.
A business fan page has a couple of great features for your business. You can set up tabs that lead to your other social media platforms as well as your blog and your customer list. You can advertise your events and make offers, share milestones and even do a survey. One of my favorite tools with a business fan page is that status, photos and even offers and events can be scheduled to be shared at different times in the future.
These are some of the biggest differences between a personal profile page and a business fan page in Facebook.
