Think Big In Who You Spend Your Time With“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” ― Jim Rohn

You probably gave the same kind of advice to your children as what the Jim Rohn quote says. It isn’t always that easy for kids to understand the advice but most adults understand that the people you spend time with will influence you and it is up to you to decide how you want to be influenced.

Most small business owners and entrepreneurs want to think big and successful. So, you want to protect yourself from people who don’t share your passion and aren’t excited for you. It can wear down a person who has to defend themselves and their passion day after day.

It is also important to be with people who can mentor and guide you in your passion. You can learn from them and build your business with people who think big and are going forward with their dreams and passions. If someone doesn’t share the dream then they should get out of the way because they are not slowing down to listen to others whine.

So, be careful with the people you are hanging around. If someone is tearing you down and not giving you encouragement then you need to think of a way to distance yourself or have a conversation with them asking them to stop. You are entitled to your passion just as much as the next person. Also, go out of your way to find a coach or mentor. Someone who can build you up and help you grow your passion into a business.

Have you ever had the experience of someone not supporting you with your passion? What did you do?

this is AWESOME advice, Shawn!! Hey, for the record, I’d hang out with YOU! I’m sure I’d learn a great deal at your feet. The Bible says that bad companions will corrupt good morals, and I remind my kiddos of that all the time. It’s VERY important who we spend our time with.

Aww, thanks Amy. I’d hang out with you too. Actually, we lived the same lifestyle. We raised our kids on a farm, we homeschooled and we are Christians. I love your quote from the Bible about bad companions corrupting good morals.

Very good point to remember! And we need to remember to be positive to all those around us too as the people we hang around with may be indicative of our attitude! :)

Great points, Shawn. It does mean sometime you just have to say goodbye to those who pull you down. Not an easy task sometimes!
