There are many good reasons to work on blogging for your business. Creating a means of communication with your customers is just one reason. A great read about that can be found here. One of the hardest things about blogging is to know what to write about and to schedule your blogs. Some people sit down and write a week worth of blogs at a time and others need a place to keep a draft of what they are working on so they can come back and add a few thoughts to one blog at a time. If you use WordPress as your website you have access to a handy little plugin that I use and love that helps with all my blogging needs. It’s called the Editorial Calendar plugin.
#1 Free and Easy: You can call me cheap, thrifty whatever the word I love the word free and this plugin does so much as a free plugin. The Editorial Calendar plugin is free & easy to install. Go to your dashboard and then plugins. Click add new and type in WordPress Editorial Calendar, install it and it will be ready to go.
#2 Draft Feature: It doesn’t matter what type of writer you are. There are times when a draft folder is a must. And that brings me to my #2 reason of using the Editorial Calendar the draft feature it offers. No worries about your thoughts being lost somewhere in all of your documents if you need to walk away for awhile just work inside of your editorial calendar and it will keep your work safe for you until you are finished with it.
#3 Schedule Day and Time: Once you are finished with writing some great material then you can use my #3 reason for loving the plugin. Your blogs can be scheduled for a certain day and also a specific time in that day. This is such a great help when you write ahead and want to have the posts set up and ready to go. As the commercial says set it and forget it!
#4 Keep Track of Posts: As you can see by the picture a glimpse at the editorial calendar can help you with keeping track of posts that you have scheduled and when they are going to run #4 in my list is the ease of which you can do this. Just by looking at the titles you can see what blog is running on what date and time. And if you would like to change one blog to a different day it’s so easy! Just reschedule the day.
#5 Help for writing series: This is one of my favorite reasons for using the plugin, when I am writing a series it helps me with the planning. I can schedule the different parts of the series and helps me keep track of each one of them. It makes it easy to switch the different posts in a different order if I want to. Using the editorial calendar as a road map makes writing a series easier and more efficient.
If you don’t use the editorial calendar now go try it out. Let me know the different ways in which you use it.
