Workshops and Marketing

www.srsvirtualassistant.comSo, you may be asking how does attending a workshop help market your business.  I will know that if you have such a question then you have not attended many workshops or at least not the right kind. There are many different types of workshops but they all can and should have one thing in common and that is time to network.  I love attending workshops where I am going to learn something, a new software or a new way of doing something. This gives me something active to do but I also love the free time offered to chat with people.  In other words, market my business.

One of the most important things to bring to these workshops besides your computer and a notebook are your business cards. I am very shy and didn’t always appreciate the times given to me for networking and marketing but after working with a coach and wanting to grow my business I had to learn to step out and talk with the people around me.

Steps I learned to make marketing at workshops successful:

  1. Remember, everyone is there for the same purpose
  2. Set goals to talk to x number of people
  3. Pass out a business card to each person you talk with
  4. Smile and enjoy the conversation you are having at the time
  5. Follow up with a thank you email for each business card you gather.

I hope with these steps you can attend your next workshop with some excitement for doing networking and marketing.

Share some of your experiences about workshops and if you market at them.

Good advice. I am EXTREMELY shy. And am always very uncomfortable in networking events especially! I hope to begin attending more (and conferences) and up my networking game!

I always like to ask people at these events what they do. People like talking about themselves and it makes them feel comfortable. They always then ask about my business so the transition is really smooth:)

This is really good Shawn. Can you believe I am still working on my business cards??? But I think my last painting will be on my card so it will all work out. Then I’ll be prepared for my next meeting and workshop!
