Your What and Why For 2014

what-hiHappy 2014! How exciting that we have a brand new year ahead of us full of opportunities and free of any problems for now.  Of course, it will not be long before we start having trouble remembering the glow we felt at the beginning of the year and start wondering why we are doing what we are working on at the time. Exactly what are you doing? What are you working on? Is there a point to it or are you just keeping busy?

Perhaps as we are at the beginning of the New Year we should work on our why and also our what. I would even go so far to say we need to turn the order around and answer our what before our why. If you are working for yourself using the computer the world is your oyster. You can do just about anything you would like to do. Are you a designer, a programmer, a virtual assistant just what is it you are doing online? Start a journal and write down what it is you are doing.

Then write down your why. Why are you doing your what? There will be days to come that you won’t want to continue to doing what you are doing. You will have doubts and fears. You may grow bored. Whatever the reasons may be if you have a why you are doing something then you can go back and read your why, remember the reasons it was important and reenergize yourself.

Your what and why may change and that is ok. Just remember to keep your journal and follow the steps of writing down your new what and why. With so many options open to a person today I can understand why there would be changes. But remember, you need to be producing work and not just being busy.

Good luck to your 2014!

Shawn, I love your suggestion to keep a journal and write out our “what” and our “why”. I think it is something that will help to inspire us to keep going when we start having self-doubt.
